Frequently Asked Questions

Who comes to St Mary's?

We have a great variety of people as part of the church family at St Mary's, from all ages, nationalities and backgrounds. We welcome all. .

What happens at a Sunday Service?

Generally we meet to worship God in prayer and through songs. Standardly there is a Bible reading and a sermon of about 20 minutes. The 10:30 services generally lasts an hour and half.

We do not make a collection but a plate is available for those wishing to make a donation.

After the 10:30 services there is always tea, coffee and biscuits served in the church so that we can get to know each other better.

Do I have to sing the hymns?

Only if you want to. If you feel unsure about singing with other people (and people do), just listen to everyone else.

Is there a dress code?

No, just come as you are.

Can I bring my children?

Yes, children make up a large and important part of our church family and they are very welcome. Children are encouraged to join in with the various groups during the service including a creche for 0-4's. Just follow the crowd when the children go out. There are no children's activities or creche at the early morning or evening services.

Do I have to participate in Communion?

No, but all who follow Jesus Christ are welcome to take communion. If you do not wish to receive the bread and wine along with other members of the church, you are welcome to stay in your seat or recieve a blessing.

I am new to the area and want to meet people, how can St Marys help?

In our church it is easy to get to know people. We run a number of small groups called Homegroups where you can get to know people better. There are also a wide range of other activities. Ask one of the welcome team for more information.

Is your church accessible by wheelchair?

Yes, and our welcome team will be very willing to help you. We no longer have fixed pews in the building, so wheelchair users can sit anywhere, all access is ramped and we have an accessible toilet.
